A country artist’s first headlining gig at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium should always be a special thing, but rarely does it happen as it did for Gary Allan, who made his arrival on Thursday (Nov. 12) to a sold-out crowd.

“I’ve got a lot of family and friends in the audience,” Allan said to a chorus of screams. “It’s gonna be a good night.”

Gary says he purposely doesn’t do many shows in Nashville since there aren’t many “cool rooms” to play, but the Ryman is certainly an exception to this rule!

“[Playing the Ryman is] one of those big ones to mark off your list,” he says.

By Cindy Watts • THE TENNESSEAN

Gary Allan doesn’t play Nashville much these days — on purpose.

Locally, the platinum-selling country singer closely guards his reputation as a live musician, and until the opportunity to headline the historic Ryman Auditorium came up, he elected not to anchor any shows in town.

“There aren’t many cool rooms (in Nashville,)” Allan says.
He was excited, however, to get back to the Ryman. He will play there Thursday along with openers Jack Ingram and the Eli Young Band.
