Gary Allan is a singer-songwriter with the allure of a modern day outlaw. Allan has won over legions of fans with his signature blend of rugged vocals, rebellious lyrics and raucous live performances. The eleven songs collected on the GARY ALLAN ICON project illustrate why Allan and his sound are worthy of ICON status.
Years ago in the bars of Southern California, Allan got his start as a teenager, playing in his father’s band. Before he knew it, Nashville came calling. Allan’s father felt his son was too young to sign with a major label and insisted Gary wait until he knew exactly who he was as an artist. Allan took his father’s advice and spent the next several years playing bars in his native California honing his sound and defining his style. The next time a record label came calling, he was ready.
Allan burst onto the country radio scene with “Her Man” which peaked at lucky #7 on the chart. It was the first of nearly a dozen top tens and four #1 hits that would follow. Since the release of “Her Man” Allan has sold over 7 million albums and released five platinum and gold albums in a row including two that debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart and #2 on the Billboard 200.
He has been described as “dark and dreamy” in Entertainment Weekly, “soulful and rough around the edges” in Playboy and deemed a “maverick” by Rolling Stone. He has sold out venues as a headliner from coast to coast, appeared on Late Show With David Letterman, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, CBS Early Show and has landed on the covers of Country Weekly, Pollstar and People magazine.
While becoming a force on the country music scene, Allan has remained true to his artistic voice each step of the way.
The ICON Series is a greatest hits collection from Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) featuring legendary artists such as: George Strait, Vince Gill, Conway Twitty, Patsy Cline, Don Williams, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams to name a few.
